ELECTRONIC GROW LIGHT

When someone referes to a digital or electronic grow light, they are referring to the ballast that powers the grow light. These new ballasts are extremely light weight and significantly more efficient than the old 'core and coil' magnetic ballasts. A digital grow light is basically provides more lumens for less watts.

Your light should be chosen based on a few main variables. How much area do you need to cover with the light? How many plants do you want to grow? Do these plants require a lot of energy (such as tomatoes and eggplants) or are they lower on the needs level, like African violets. Look below for estimations of what each light size is good for. A digital ballast can run Metal Halide OR High Pressure Sodium bulbs. These lights are definately the way of the future. A grower can use a Metal Halide bulb for vegetative growth and then switch it with a High Pressure Sodium bulb for flowering.
